Summary of the work
The story-teller tells: not in words but in images. Peter Hiemstra is an artist who doesn't create images but image stories. No uniform shapes, but scenes or events. Metamorphosis is a grateful expedient which the artist uses to wrap up his feelings and conceptions. The (self)criticism is not becoming less sharp by the allegorical approach, but more bearable. His image stories are midway between witty and bizar, honest and vulnarable. Their quality and appearance are so self-evident, that they almost make forget the subtle technical process.
Technique
The objects mainly consist of clay, stone-ware or china-ware. Other materials are used as support to achieve definite effects. The clay is burned to 1180 or 1240 degrees. Feldsparglazes, engobes, pigments and lusters provide an own spectrum. Glaze-graffity is regular applied.
